“We adore playing hymns of such beautiful music and incredible meaning, that have connected generations, marked life’s milestones and inspired faith and worship for hundreds of years and their power lives on. Yet so many of the 847 hymns in our Ancient and Modern hymn book never get played. So that’s why we played the lot, in one go, so anyone could come into our great church to hear for the first time very rarely heard ones, or their favourite ones, for free. Most were played on our impressive organ, and some were played on our piano. Over 200 people visited, to listen and many sang too. We started on 19 June at 9pm and finished in time for the 10am service on Sunday 21 June. That’s about 34 hours so we limited ourselves to about 2 minutes of each hymn. We asked people to vote for their favourite hymns and the top 5 were played in full, in our 10am service. They raised the roof! Thank you for joining us, supporting us and volunteering for us. You have all helped create a great success which will be remembered fondly. Thank you for your kind donations, which will help keep this church and its music going for years to come. Thank you.” Gordon, (Organist, Organiser, St Gregory’s Church Marnhull Hymnathon 2026).
